The VISUAL project aims to apply new technologies as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) to increase the productivity of local businesses in line with the industry 4.0 vision. The objective of the project is to create an infrastructure and know-how to enable Fraunhofer Italia to conduct applied research in the areas of AR and VR applied to automation. A research platform will be developed that integrates technologies for collaborative robotics and devices for visualization in virtual/upgraded reality. These include a system for tracking the position and movements of objects in a room with high spatial and temporal resolution, as well as software for visualization and analysis of positioning and movement data, finally a 3D scanner for the acquisition of spatial data of potential case studies and a collaborative robot for validation. Through an automation case study, where a human worker interacts with a cooperative robotic arm, the components will be tested in a real case and procedures will be developed for the appropriate use of technologies.
